GPAS-Europe and the Jean Monnet EU Centre successfully co-hosted a special lecture on Tuesday, December 6, 2022, titled “K-POP in Europe: Korean Cultural Exports – The ‘Korean Wave’ Reaching Italian Shores?” at the International Studies Hall.
The lecture was delivered by Professor Youngah Guahk of LUISS University in Rome and explored the global rise of the Korean Wave (Hallyu), with a particular focus on the spread and reception of K-pop and Korean popular culture in Europe and Italy. Professor Guahk provided insightful analysis on how Korean cultural exports function as soft power, shaping cultural exchange, youth culture, and transnational media consumption across Europe.
The event, conducted in English, attracted students, researchers, and members of the academic community with strong interest in cultural studies, international relations, and East Asia–Europe relations. The lecture was followed by an engaging discussion and Q&A session, allowing participants to reflect on the future trajectory of Korean culture in the European context.
GPAS-Europe and the Jean Monnet EU Centre would like to thank Professor Guahk and all attendees for contributing to a meaningful and enriching academic exchange.
